BYD × DJI launches the world's first car-mounted drone "Lingyuan"

2025-03-07

(March 2, 2024) Under the wave of the intersection of smart travel and low-altitude economy, BYD and DJI Innovations, two industry giants, have joined forces to officially release the world's first deeply integrated intelligent car-mounted UAV system-"Lingyuan". With its subversive hardware architecture and intelligent operation logic, the system redefines the application scenarios of car-mounted UAVs, marking the entry of car-machine collaboration technology into a new era.

Technological breakthrough: the revolution from "car accessories" to "whole vehicle organs"

The "Lingyuan" system breaks the "simple carrying" mode of traditional car-mounted UAVs, and innovatively adopts a suspended/embedded dual-form hangar design. The thickness of only 21.5cm can realize the automatic storage and fast charging of UAVs. Through the self-developed car-mounted positioning module and Dlink host, the system can still complete dynamic take-off and landing at a speed of 25km/h, and the 54km/h follow-up speed is combined with a 10Hz return point refresh frequency to ensure that the follow-up picture is stable and smooth while the vehicle is moving. Particularly eye-catching is its 3cm-level omnidirectional obstacle avoidance system and dual-image transmission antenna design, which can achieve safe return within a range of 2 kilometers even under complex road conditions.

In terms of tackling user pain points, "Lingyuan" pioneered the "whole vehicle integrated solution": the 100W fast charging interface achieves 20%-80% efficient energy replenishment in 30 minutes, the AI algorithm automatically matches 30 sets of shooting templates, and cooperates with the "ground-air dual-camera" system composed of 4K roof cameras and drones, which completely solves the three major industry problems of traditional aerial photography equipment: complex operation, single perspective, and endurance anxiety.

Ecological reconstruction: commercial transition from professional tools to mass standard

The "Lingyuan" system released this time shows significant commercial potential: the hardware end is adapted to BYD's entire series of models through modular design, and the software end relies on the Dlink ecosystem to achieve intelligent editing, music and cloud sharing of shooting materials. In terms of application scenario expansion, the system supports customized shooting modes such as still life blockbusters and car-following camera operation. Users can generate professional-level image works with one click through the dual-mode handle, simplifying the traditional aerial photography production process that requires a professional team to complete into "single-soldier combat".

It is worth noting that the system reserves a 5G+ satellite communication interface, laying a technical foreshadowing for the subsequent expansion of B-end scenarios such as emergency rescue and geological exploration. Industry analysts pointed out that "Lingyuan" will reduce the cost of using vehicle-mounted drones by 60%, which is expected to promote the transformation of this technology from high-end optional equipment to mass standard equipment.
